WHEN BURNING DESIRE SPELLS TROUBLE
Jealous friend sets girl on fire
Anshul Jaiswal | TNN
Kanpur: A teenaged girl was nearly burnt to death by another girl,
her “fast friend”, who was reportedly in love with her.
According to 17-year-old Prajakta (name changed), Seema (22) had
always been quite possessive about her. On occasions, she had
objected to Prajakta’s `dressing sense’. Of late, Seema had asked her
not to sit outside the house as she could not tolerate other boys
stalking or even staring at her. But the `instructions’ fell on deaf
ears and that put her off immensely.
Around 4.30 pm on Saturday, Seema visited Prajakta’s house when no
one, except her six-year-old brother Akash, was present. Seizing the
opportunity, she sent Akash out and drugged Prajakta. As she became
unconscious, Seema doused her with kerosene and set her on fire.
But, as luck would have it, Prajakta’s father Brijesh Kumar, a
labourer, returned from work early. Hearing the cries of his
daughter, he rushed in to see Prajakta in flames and Seema holding
her hand to prevent her from running away. As soon as she saw
Brijesh, she poured water on Prajakta.
Prajakta was then rushed to a hospital. She has received burns on her
chest and hands, but there was nothing alarming about her situation,
Seema was arrested by the police and an FIR lodged against her. She
was later released on bail.
